Fishing in Miri

For those who wish to take part and to experience a sport fishing trip, it can be organised from day trip to overnight on boarding the fishing boat. Basic facilities will be provided on some boats such as cabin rooms which can accommodate 12 persons with air-conditioning and also toilets for shower. Meals can be arranged for the fishing trip, BBQ in the evening on deck while enjoying the panoramic view of South China Sea can be a great experience.

Sport fishing is fast gaining popularity in Miri with anglers coming from overseas to participate in the yearly Miri City International Deep-Sea Fishing Tournament. The event held off the shore of Miri waters and attracted anglers from local and international such as China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Brunei besides Malaysia.

Fish Species

Shallow water: (20-60m) more to Southwest from Miri. The fish species are: Grouper, GT, Mangrove Jack, King Fish, Queen Fish, Red Grouper and Diamond Trevally.

Deep Sea Water: (80-450m) towards Brunei boundary. The fish species are: Yellow Fin Tuna, Dog Tooth Tuna, Giant Grouper, Amberjack Swallow tail, Sea Perch, Giant Barracudas, Garfish, Parrot Fish and Ruby Snapper.

Sport Fishing Season

The best season for sport fishing is normally during month of March until October as the possibility of the trip to be cancelled due to bad weather is low. Depending on the fish species, the fishing guide and captain will steer to the best spot to get better catch during the trip.
