Ulu Baram – a wilderness romance
Selaan-Linau, Ulu Baram has all the key elements of an outstanding ecotourism experience; flora, fauna, natural monuments and local communities. Her authenticity, historical and cultural heritage is quite distinct from the southern region of Sarawak. Here, you will meet the Penan and the Kenyah ethnic group and get up close with their daily activities. Nature experience doesn’t come more complete then spending a day at the amazing Sela’an Linau waterfall. The departing city to Ulu Baram area is Miri, the main gateway to the northern region of Sarawak.

The following is what you would see and do.F
Day 1: Miri – Sela’an-Linau – Long Buboi [Lunch/Dinner]
Morning, depart Miri via 4WD to Sela’an Linau, Ulu Baram which takes approximately 4 hours. Arrive at Segah Sela’an Linau homestay at noon. After lunch, proceed by 4-wheel drive (45mins) to visit Long Buboi (Penan) Village, one of the 12 Penan communities in Sela’an-Linau. Tour the longhouse, visit their private room, have a dialogue with the Chief and/or his people. Witness a blowpipe demonstration and explore their herbal garden before returning to Segah-Sela’an via the same way. Swim and relax by Segah-Sela’an River. Dinner and overnight in the homestay.
Day 2: Lio Mato Village – Apau Ubi Sela’an – Segah Sela’an Linau [Breakfast/BBQ Lunch/Dinner]
After breakfast, proceed for a full day excursion to visit the Kenyah ethnic group, a major ethnic group of Ulu Baram. Again your journey will done in 4-wheel-drive (45mins). You will arrive at Lio Mato Village, considered an outpost in the old days due to its close proximity to the Indonesian Kalimantan border. Explore the village, witness the century-old fort which commands a panoramic view of upper Baram River, and visit the village school. Continue with another hour’s drive to visit Apau Ubi Sela’an, a 4-family farm-house, the start of your ecotourism experience. Explore the garden, tour the farm-house, and get involved with their daily chores while lunch is prepared and served. Return to Segah-Sela’an Homestay via the same way. Dinner and overnight in the homestay.
Day 3: Sela’an Linau Waterfall Trekking [Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner]
Breakfast in the homestay. Today, it will be a nature retreat experience right in the heart of wild Borneo, rejuvenating in the pools of Sela’an Waterfall that drops from a height of 100+ meters. The journey takes about 45 mins by 4-wheel-drive followed by a 45-min trek to this secluded and spectacular spot in the midst of the dense dipterocarp forest. Swim, relax and rejuvenate while your host prepares a traditional “Pansuh” lunch with food cooked in bamboo. Return to Segah-Sela’an Homestay via the same way. Dinner and overnight in the homestay.
Day 4: Long Sait – Sepigan (Penan Village) – Segah Sela’an [Breakfast/Picnic Lunch/Dinner]
After breakfast, proceed by 4-wheel-drive (45mins) to a small settlement at Long Sait. Upon arrival, embark on a thrilling journey in a long-tailed boat for a 40mins ride to Sepigan (Penan) Village, located at the upper reaches of Selungo River, a tributary of the mighty Baram. Explore the village, their garden of medicinal and edible plants. Participate in their craftworks. Return to Segah-Sela’an Homestay via the same way. Dinner and overnight in the homestay.
Day 5: Departure to Miri [Breakfast]
After breakfast, pack and depart back to Miri via 4WD
