COME EXPERIENCE IRAU ACO LUN BAWANG THIS SEPTEMBER

Irau Aco Lun Bawang is a celebration that gathers the greatest assemblage of the Lun Bawang community in Lawas. This event is traditionally a rice harvest festival, but today showcase diverse traditions of the Lun Bawang subgroup in Lawas, including traditional music, dances, handicrafts, and traditional cuisines.

Every year, Irau Aco Lun Bawang is held around the end of May. The festival will be held for the 35th time from 2nd to 4th September 2022. Their Sabah counterpart, Lun Dayeh, is also invited to join them in celebrating the event.

Those who attend the festival will be greeted with community cultural dances such as ‘nguip suling’ (the famous Lun Bawang home-grown bamboo flute band), angklung performances, and contemporary band performances.

Another attraction for the vsitors to the festival is a beauty pageant and warrior contest. The beauty pageant winner is crowned as Ruran Ulung, while the warrior contest will be titled Padan Liu Burung.
