BROCHURES FOR SIBU & THE CENTRAL REGION
Sibu: Visitors who wish to visit Sibu and Central Region of Sarawak are not to worry as the Sibu Tourist Map or Sibu and Central Region Visitors’ Guide Book are available at Sarawak Tourism Board’s Visitor’s Information Centre, Sibu and also at the brochure rack at Sibu Airport.
Recently, STB management team headed by its CEO Dato Rashid Khan had a successful engagement session with representatives from Sibu Municipal Council, Sibu DTTG (Divisional Tourism Task Group), STF (Sarawak Tourism Federation) Sibu Branch, 3rdDivision Travel Agent Association, MAH (Malaysian Association of Hotels) & MBHA (Malaysian Budget Hotel Association) Sibu Chapter and Sarawak Central Region Hotel Association at the Resident’s Office here.
This session was organized by Sarawak Tourism Board in response to the various comments in the press with regards to the unavailability of brochures on Sibu. Dato Rashid briefed those present that the brochures are available at the Visitors’ Information Centre Sibu and at Sibu Airport. For those travel agents or hoteliers who need tourism brochures, they are advised to liaise with STB’s Visitors Information Centre which is located at no 32, Jalan Tukang Besi or can be reached by phone at 084-340980 or fax at 084-341280.
He also reiterated that tourism is very much private sector driven and he hoped that the local industry players could be more creative and create interesting packages to attract tourists to the Central Region. Sibu could be promoted through festivals’ and food eg. ‘kompiah’, or promoting its unique gardens which could attract certain market segment.
